Weber Yard

From HistoryWiki

This was a railroad yard owned by the Chicago & North Western Railroad. It ran along the east bank of the North Shore Channel between Oakton Street and Main Street in Evanston.

The Weber Yard was named for Barney F. Weber.

This yard was used to receive and dispatch cars for the industrial area in the surrounding neighborhoods. Extra passenger cars needed for the rush hours were temporarily stored there. Freight cars were shuttled to the industrial area west of McCormick Boulevard in Skokie. Cars were exchanged with the Chicago North Shore & Milwaukee Railroad (North Shore Line), too.

The Chicago & West Ridge Railroad terminated at Weber Yard.

There were maintenance facilities and a turntable in the Weber Yard.
