United Motor Coach Company

From HistoryWiki

The United Motor Coach Company served Des Plaines and nearby northwest suburbs. In 1959, United Motor Coach acquired some routes previously operated by American Coach Company of Skokie. At one time United Motor Coach operated as far west as Elgin and Harvard, but routes were scaled back by the 1970s. In 1975 United Motor Coach became publicly owned North Suburban Mass Transit District (Nortran), and in 1991 Nortran became the Pace Northwest Division.

The Pace Northwest Division continues to use the former United Motor Coach garage at 900 E. Northwest Highway in Des Plaines, which opened in 1962. The United Motor Coach Company previously had a garage on the east side of Laurel Ave. between Miner St. and Perry St., a short distance northwest of the Des Plaines train station. American Coach Company had been based at 8444 Niles Center Road in Skokie.
