The Receptor

From HistoryWiki

The Receptor is a 10-ton cast concrete abstract sculpture that was sculpted by Tamsie Ringler who was inspired by the iris of the human eye and the photoreceptor cones that enable vision. It was cast on site in 2004 at the Franconia Sculpture Park in Franconia, Minnesota, and then exhibited at the 2005 Navy Pier Walk sculpture exhibition.

Following the Navy Pier exhibition, the Receptor made its way to Oak Park, Illinois, where the village displayed it in one of its local parks. In 2007 the Touhy Park Advisory Council learned that the sculpture was looking for a new home, as the Oak Park space was being redesigned for playing fields. The Advisory Council and Alderman Joe Moore's office convinced Oak Park to donate the sculpture to Touhy Park where it was installed in 2009.

The 49th Ward now boasts two public art sculptures. In addition to The Receptor, Rogers Park residents also enjoy "Windform," located in Loyola Park, just north of Pratt.
