Sherwin-On-The-Lake

1205 W. Sherwin Avenue

Sherwin-On-The-Lake was an eight-story apartment building erected in 1929. It offered a resort atmosphere to the many people who stayed there over the years. It had its own beach, pier, and taxi run to downtown Chicago.

Sherwin-On-The-Lake was featured in the 1991 Annual Fall House Tour.

Circa: 1929

Original Owner: Vernon C. McGill

No other lake shore residential building, with its own private beach, retains as much of its original elegant character as does 1205 W. Sherwin Avenue. The building was completed in 1929 as an in-town resort hotel with regular water taxi service to The Loop.

The water taxis are no longer running, but the spacious resort facilities remain: the beautiful art deco lobby, the ample boat storage, and the classic half-block long balcony overlooking the pristine beach.
