Sacramento Avenue

From HistoryWiki

Sacramento Avenue Soundex Code S265

3000 W. from 7558 N. to 11258 S. This street is in West Ridge from Howard Street south to Bryn Mawr Avenue - ONLY

The Chicago City Council passed a lengthy ordinance January 14, 1895, rationalizing the street naming system. Sacramento Avenue did not extend far enough north at that time to enter West Ridge. Therefore there are no addresses on Sacramento Avenue that need conversion.

Named for the Sacramento, California. The word is Spanish for "sacrament," and it refers to the Blessed Sacrament of the Lord's Supper.
