Dr. Benjamin Rush (1745-1813) was one of four physicians to sign the Declaration of Independence. He was a great patriot who served as a surgeon in the Revolutionary War. He convinced Thomas Paine to write Common Sense. Rush Medical College, now Rush-Presbyterian-St. Luke's Medical Center was named in his honor.
