Peter A. Reinberg (1858-1921) was president of the Cook County Board of Commissioners (1914-1921) and the founder of the Cook County Forest Preserve District. He was born in Chicago. His father was a truck farmer who grew his crops at Robey Street and Balmoral Avenue.

At the time of his death, Reinberg lived at 5643 N. Sheridan Road.

His wife was Mary Reinberg nee:Mary Kronenberger, (1862-1934). She lived in the Edgewater Beach Hotel, 5555 N. Sheridan Road, at the time of her death. She was born in Germany and came to America when she was 6 years old.

They married in 1884, and adopted a son, Charles Reinberg. Mary had two brothers, Chris who lives in Chicago and Charles who lives in California. Mrs. Reinberg also had three sisters: Mrs. Louise Zender, Mrs. Catherine Miller, and Mrs. Helen Mullman of California. She was a member of the Illinois Women's Club and the Edgewater Catholic Women's Club.

Peter A. Reinberg Elementary School at 3425 N. Major Avenue was named for him.
