Park Castles Condominiums

2416-58 W. Greenleaf Avenue

Designed by architect James Denson, this 68-unit building is a good example of the Tudor and Gothic Revival styles of the 1920s, with turrets, towers, and crenelation. The grounds once contained a moat which was home to swans, a gondola, and stone bridges. The moat has long since been filled in and is now part of the gardens, although the bridges remain.

A noteworthy feature of this building is the heated and spectacularly tiled swimming pool, which is out of a Hollywood fantasy of the 1920s. The developers described it as “Moorish” and this is an apt description. The colorful mosaic tiles and fountain would not be out of place in an ancient villa. The recreation facilities also featured an indoor putting green, and a handball court.

The building was erected in 1927.

The Park Castles were featured in the 1999 Annual Fall House Tour and the 2010 Annual House Tour.

Park Castles were a featured location during openhousechicago 2011 and 2012.
