National Design Center was located in Marina City.

According to an article in the Chicago Tribune from Friday, September 28, 1962, the National Design Center in New York City leased the space a 10 years in order to establish a National Design Center here.

The Center is mentioned in various other articles and announcements until 1967. The last mention in the Tribune of the Marina City National Design Center is on Sunday, August 6, 1967 when the Chicago Society of Artists had a show there.

According to the book Chicago Architecture and Design, 1923-1993: Reconfiguration of an American Metropolis (Art Institute of Chicago, 1993), the National Design Center closed after just a few years because architects and interior designers preferred to use the Merchandise Mart and Sweets Catalog, and the public was not aware of the services it offered.
