Arthur Mastin Millard (1871-1946) and his wife, Alice, were the fourth owners of 1404 W. Jarvis Avenue.

This apartment building was included in the 1994 Annual Fall House Tour.

On the political scene: Arthur Mastin Millard was a Chicago Republican who challenged incumbent, William Hale Thompson, to be the Republican candidate for Mayor in the 1923 election. He lost to Thompson, and Thompson lost to Chicago Democrat, William Emmett Dever.

Arthur Mastin Millard was living at 1404 W. Jarvis Avenue at the time of his death, Monday, December 9, 1946. He died at the Illinois Masonic Hospital. He was 75.

Since 1916, Millard was president and general manager of the Masonic Employment Bureau, and past illustrious master of the Lodge of Perfection of Scottish Rite. He was a 33rd Degree Mason and founder of the Order of the Builders; a masonic organization for boys.

He was survived by his, apparently third wife, Orah Millard; two sons, Everett Millard and Arthur Mastin Millard, Jr. and a daughter, Eleanor Millard.
