Mary Margaret Langdon Playlot Park

1754 W. Albion Avenue

Chicago, IL 60626

Formerly known as Albion Park this site was renamed Mary Margaret Langdon Park in 2005 as part of an effort by the Chicago Park District Board of Commissioners to recognize the contributions of Chicago women. The city of Chicago purchased the property at the corner of North Ravenswood Avenue and Albion Avenue in 1950. The city's Bureau of Parks and Recreation operated the site as Albion Park until 1959, when the Chicago Park District acquired it.

Mary Margaret Langdon (1918-1993), who went by the nickname Megs, was an accomplished university administrator and community activist in Rogers Park and Edgewater neighborhoods. In the 1970s, she was appointed Director of Community Programs Office at Loyola University Chicago where she remained until her retirement. Ms. Langdon played an active role in numerous community efforts and organizations including the Chicago Crime Commission, St. Joseph Hospital Executive Advisory Committee, the Chicago Plan Commission, and the Rogers Park Community Council.

Join me for the Grand Opening of the new Langdon Park Playground and Soccer Field!

Announcement to his constituents by 49th Ward Alderman Joe Moore

Dear Neighbor,

I invite you to join me, the Chicago Park District and members of the 49th Ward Participatory Budgeting leadership team as we cut the ribbon on the new playground and mini-soccer field at Langdon Park! The ribbon cutting ceremony will take place this Saturday, September 26th, 10:00 a.m. at Langdon Park, 1754 W. Albion Avenue (at Ravenswood Avenue).

The new mini-soccer field is designed for smaller children and was funded through my Participatory Budgeting process in which the residents of the 49th Ward vote on how to spend the ward's $1 million annual capital improvement budget.

The new playground was selected through a community application process administered by Friends of the Parks, a park advocacy organization, dedicated to preserving, protecting, and improving Chicago's parks. I announced the initiative in March of 2013 and urged neighbors to submit their favorite playground for consideration. In true Rogers Park fashion, the neighbors were enthusiastic and well-organized. As a result, every 49th Ward playground submitted for consideration was selected, including Langdon Park. The 49th Ward now has 10 brand new playgrounds to enjoy!

I hope you and your family can attend Saturday morning's celebration!
