Maplewood Avenue

From HistoryWiki

Maplewood Avenue Soundex Code M143

2532 W., from 7556 N. to 11856 S. This street is in West Ridge from Birchwood Avenue south to Bryn Mawr Avenue - ONLY

The City Council passed a lengthy ordinance January 14, 1895, rationalizing the street naming system. This street did not exist at that time, so no Maplewood Avenue addresses need conversion.

This street was NOT listed in the 1895, 1897, 1898, 1901, 1902, 1903, 1904 Chicago Blue Book.

Maplewood was called this because of the many Maple Trees planted there. Suburban Maplewood was once a village on what is now the Near Northwest Side of Chicago.
