Louis Goldberg was an author, naturalist, horticulturist, conservationist, and union leader.

In 1972, the Chicago Park District purchased the property at 7043 N. Glenwood Avenue, using funds from the U.S. Department of Housing and Urban Development, to develop a playlot.

The newly-developed playlot was briefly known as Quince Park. In late 1975, the Park District officially redesignated the site as Goldberg Playlot Park, in honor of Louis Goldberg.
