Farley, Iowa -- Loren P. "Chris" Kringle, (1948-2011), of Farley, formerly of Chicago, died Tuesday, January 18, 2011. In keeping with his wishes, private family services were held at Leonard Funeral Home & Crematory, 2595 Rockdale Road. He was born on September 22, 1948, in Dubuque, Iowa son of Delos and Mary nee Kiefer.

Loren served in the U.S. Army during the Vietnam War.

He worked for Union Pacific Railroad until retirement in 2009, and was involved with the The American Society of Dowsers and Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society in Chicago. Loren enjoyed the farmers market, reading, working in his garden, treasure hunting, and was passionate about writing. He was very educated and was always interested in finding and learning new things. Loren was a kind, giving, and soft-spoken man. He loved spending time with his family and friends. He was always there to help and always put others before himself.

Surviving are five sisters, Sharon Winters, of Burnsville, Minnesota, Diane (Gary) Stecklein, of Altoona, Iowa, Deb (Terry) Stecklein, and Kim (Rick) Biedermann, both of Dubuque, and Kathy Luther, of Altoona; five brothers, Delos (Laura) Kringle, of Kansas City, Missouri, David (Bobby Daily) Howell, of Texas, and Paul, Greg, and Mark Howell; two Godchildren, Stacey Biedermann and Tyler Stecklein; many nieces, nephews, great-nieces and nephews; and many special friends.

He was preceded in death by his parents, Delos and Mary (Kiefer) Kringle, and Paul Howell; his brother, Kenneth Kringle; a niece, Elizabeth Kringle; a brother-in-law, John Luther; and his dog, Jenny Jo, who was his faithful companion.
