Named for Bradford A. Lawrence who was a friend of Lazarus Silverman (1830-1909). Silverman was a banker and subdivider. While the two were walking along together in Silverman's new Montrose Subdivision, Silverman apparently said, "Let's call this Lawrence Avenue."
