Kinzie Mansion

The Kinzie Mansion belonged to the first white inhabitant of Northern Illinois, a native of Quebec and Indian trader, John Kinzie. It was built circa 1796 on the site of present day Chicago, across the Chicago River from Fort Dearborn.

The first wedding in Chicago was held in the Kinzie Mansion on July 20, 1823, between Dr. Alexander Wolcott, Jr. and Ellen Marion Kinzie, daughter of John Kinzie.
