David W. Kean, real estate dealer, Chicago, was born in Crawford County, Pennsylvania, Tuesday September 28, 1841.

He came to Chicago in 1883, and first taught school. Then enlisted in the 2nd Board of Trade Regiment Volunteer Infantry, and one year afterward was discharged on account of wounds received at Battle of Perryville. In 1864, he engaged in the banking business in New York City up to 1866, when he was made financial agent of the Northern Pacific Railway, holding that position up to 1873, when he engaged in the real estate business at Rogers Park.

As the representative of the Rogers Park Land Company he has constructed most of the residences of that village, and its organization was mainly due to the exertions of Mr. Kean, though in the face of great opposition.

He was one of the members of the first Board of Trustees, and has been prominently identified with the Methodist Church of that village.

David W. Kean married Eliza A. Kean, nee: Eliza A. Pratt, of Connecticut, in Bloomington, Illinois, she being at the time first assistant principal of high school at Bloomington.

They have three children, Jessie Kean, Ralph D. Kean, and Mabel Kean.
