Joseph W. Touhy was the son of Patrick Leonard Touhy and Catherine Touhy.

Siblings were: S. Rogers Touhy, Mrs. Addison Blakeley, Catherine Touhy (Mrs. Catherine Cullen), Alice Touhy (Mrs. Archibald Alexander McKinley), and Miss Grace Constance Touhy.
