Fortman, Joseph "Bill"

Joseph A. "Bill" Fortman donated the F001 series of photos to the Society.

Joseph A. "Bill" Fortman stipulated in his will, in 1990 when he died, that the family home and property at 6836 N. Ridge Boulevard be left to his son, David, with the condition that it may not be sold to a non-family member.

The property may have been settled as early as 1834, with two homes erected on the land before the present one, a dignified Italianate home was built by Peter Smith, Sr.. Peter Smith, Jr. married Louise the daughter of Fred Fortman. This is how the single-family ownership of the property began in 1894 to the present.
