Federal Street

From HistoryWiki

60 W. from 300 S. to 5458 S.

This street runs smack into the Kluczynski Federal Building that stands on the site of Chicago's old U.S. Courthouse, usually called the Federal Building. The old 14-story building, designed by Henry Ives Cobb, was constructed in 1905 and torn down in 1965. Its iron was sold to a South Side scrap dealer and some of its stone was sold for use in the North Shore suburbs as a bulwark against the waters of Lake Michigan. The Kluczynski building was designed by Ludwig Mies van der Rohe.
