Siedenburg, Father
Father Siedenburg was cited in the History of Rogers Park, Document #49:
"When I came to Rogers Park for the first time, on a tour of investigation for a site for the new college, there was nothing but sand, scrub oaks, and bush in the Loyola district...This trip was made sometime in 1903. Our committee went up to Wilson Avenue on the "L", which was as far as the line went then, and from that point we took a buggy on up to Rogers Park...There was no sentiment connected with the selection of the site for the college. The land was cheap and seemed to be a good buy. This particular piece of land was called Hayes Point. There was a frame house standing on the south side of Hayes Avenue (Loyola Avenue) at the time the land was purchased...The land in the original purchase did not extend to Devon Avenue or Sheridan Road, but ended at the south side of the present Granada Theater; leaving that corner lot where the gasoline station is now, vacant. Our land did go to Devon east of the elevated tracks and as far east as it goes now."
