Wife Asks Paris Divorce From Edwin J. Brach

Mrs. Emily Potwine Brach, nee: Emily Potwine Upton, wife of Edwin James Brach, wealthy Chicago candy maker, filed suit for divorce in Paris, France, yesterday, November 5, 1927, according to dispatches. The Brachs who were married in Chicago on June 1, 1911, and separated last July, according to the bill, incompatibility being the cause assigned by their friends. The Brach home is on Sheridan Road in Winnetka, Illinois.

For the presumed purpose of assisting his wife in obtaining a divorce, Mr. Brach recently took up residence in Paris. Shortly after the separation, according to reports, he had divided equally with her his $4,000,000 estate.

Mr. Brach is a partner of E.J. Brach and Sons, candy manufacturers. The business established by his father, Emil J. Brach on a capital of $1,000, has grown to be one of the principal candy making establishments of the country with a reported turnover of more than $50,000,000 yearly. Another son of the founder, Frank Vincent Brach is also interested in the business.
