Commuter Railway Stations Soundex Code C536

There were two steam-powered Commuter railroads that ran through Rogers Park. No commuter railroad ever ran through West Ridge.

The commuter service provided by the Chicago, Milwaukee and St. Paul Railway was taken over by the Northwestern Elevated Railroad Company in the form of an electric Rapid transit service. This was eventually elevated.

We also had electric Interurban rail service that passed through Rogers Park. This was provided by the Chicago, North Shore & Milwaukee Railroad. Since it used the same tracks as the Northwestern Elevated Railroad, the North Shore Line, as it was known, began on the ground and was elevated when the Northwestern's trackage was elevated.

The commuter service provided by the Chicago & North Western Railway was taken over by Metra. This, too, was eventually elevated.

The electric service stations are listed in Rapid Transit Stations.

The steam (now diesel) commuter service station in Rogers Park is located on Ravenswood Avenue between Greenleaf Avenue and Morse Avenue. There was a station, known as Kenmore Station, located alongside Ridge Boulevard at Granville Avenue. This was torn down in the 1950s.

The North Shore Line used the rapid transit's Howard Street Station as its station in Rogers Park.
