Chicago Union Traction Company Soundex Code C220

In 1899, the North Chicago Street Railroad Company and the West Chicago Street Railroad Company were merged into the Chicago Union Traction Company. And, in 1908, the Chicago Union Traction Company was acquired by the Chicago Railways Company.

RPWRHS photo C036-0102 shows Chicago Union Traction Company "summer" car number 5991 on Clark Street. The line ran through Evanston, Rogers Park, and Chicago. Such cars had rolled up tarps which could be lowered in inclement weather to protect the passengers. The date of this photo has to be between 1899 and 1908.
