Chicago Surface Lines Streetcar
RPWRHS photo C001-0197 shows Chicago Surface Lines streetcar 618 at Howard Street, which was the northern end of the Western Avenue streetcar line. Photo 1921. The 618 was known as an "Old Pullman" or "Big Pullman". While the 600 series ran all over Chicago, their home was on the North Side. These cars replaced the St. Louis Car Company-built 1306-1423 Series and were the first series to result from the joint efforts of the Chicago Railways Company and the Board of Supervising Engineers. All the cars in this series were scrapped between 1946 and 1956.
