Chicago City Directory Soundex Code C220

Before Telephone Directories there were City Directories.

A city directory is a listing of residents, streets, businesses, organizations or institutions, and their addresses, giving their location in a city. Frequently a person's occupation was listed and his place of business was given.

City directories were used the world over for decades before the invention of telephones and the eventual introduction of the "Phone Book".

Chicago City Directories On-Line
