The Chicago & Evanston Electric Railway Company was incorporated on Monday, July 20, 1891.

It was renamed the Chicago North Shore Street Railway Company in June, 1892.

In 1894, the road was acquired by the North Chicago Electric Railway Company.

The North Chicago Electric Railway Company was acquired by the Chicago Consolidated Traction Company in 1899.

In 1910, the suburban operations of the Chicago Consolidated Traction Company were acquired by the County Traction Company. This lasted until 1913.
