Capitain, Henry D.

Henry D. Capitain (1862-1932), a Republican, was Alderman of the 25th Ward from 1911-1920.

At the end of his aldermanic career, Henry D. Capitain was Chairman of the Local Transportation Subcommittee of the Chicago City Council. He encountered a lot of flak in that position because he wasn't one of Mayor William Hale Thompson's insiders and many of Thompson's supporters wanted him to step down. He did so on Tuesday, April 20, 1920.

Along with Henry D. Capitain, John Durham Cleveland began a legal movement to create the Ridge Avenue Park District that would serve to improve West Ridge and Rogers Park, west of the Chicago & North Western Railway's tracks in to Ridge Boulevard.

Henry D. Capitain was school trustee in old Village of Rogers Park.

Henry D. Capitain was the first Village Clerk on the West Ridge Village Board.
