The Burton Holmes Laboratories were located at 7510 N. Ashland Avenue. The building now houses the Howard Area Community Center's Family Center.

Burton Holmes was a travel film pioneer and impresario. He coined the term "travelogue." Holmes' gave travel lectures to packed audiences across the country throughout the 1910s, 1920s, 1930s, and 1940s. He illustrated his talks with slides and, later, with motion pictures he produced in his laboratory.
