Budlong Woods was named for Lyman Arnold Budlong.
Budlong Woods is a neighborhood in Community Area 4, Lincoln Square.
Peterson Woods was once considered part of the Budlong Woods neighborhood, which, in the 1800s was the site of the Budlong Pickle Farm and Factory, located north and west of the intersection of Western Avenue and Foster Avenue.
Founded in 1857 by Lyman Arnold Budlong and Joseph Budlong, it became the main supplier of pickles and pickled beets in the Chicago area. In 1880 they expanded their farm to include greenhouses in order to grow flowers.
