Before the U.S. entry into World War II, the British War Relief Society, located in New York City, had a chapter in Rogers Park. This group received many offers of assistance from residents and business in Rogers Park and West Ridge. Several local stores donated shoes and clothing, while local churches and clubs formed groups in support of the war effort. Offers of clothing and bedding continued throughout 1941.

The British War Relief Association, 542 Fifth Ave., New York City, was formed for the purpose of aiding the hospitals and relief stations in England, France, and Belgium. The British War Relief Association was the first War Relief Association incorporated in New York City. Numerous branches were established throughout the country.

Mrs. Henry Cambridge 1245 W. Chase Avenue, was the chairman of the Rogers Park Chapter of the British War Relief Society.
