George W. Brandt (1842-1910) was an attorney and law writer. He lived at 1316 Michigan Avenue. He was cremated at Graceland Cemetery.

He was born in West Virginia and attended Iowa State University. He arrived in Chicago in the 1860s.

Early in his career, he became surety for a relative and was obligated to pay the debt. The episode interested him in the law of suretyship, and perceiving the absence of a textbook on the subject wrote one which was published and considered by many as the most comprehensive work on the field.

At approximately the time of the Great Chicago Fire (1871) Brandt formed a law partnership with Francis A. Hoffman, Jr. which continued up to the time of his death.

His wife was Helen A. Brandt. They had two children. Daughter Gahfea Brandt and son Berkeley Brandt.
