Boys' World Clothing

Boys' World was located at 2516 W. Devon Avenue. This was the site of the Cine Theater.

It was billed as:

"The Most Complete and Unique Shop in the World Serving Boys from 2 to 18 Years of Age."

It was modeled after the company's successful store at 1712 W. 95th Street in Beverly Hills on the South Side of Chicago. The advertising said: "This is not just another boys' store, but one that caters to the same superb style that his father demands. Barber shop and shoe shine were on the premises."

The grand opening was on Wednesday, August 20, 1952, and, in addition to a parade, both "Wild Bill Hickock and Jingles" (Guy Madison and Andy Devine) were there "in person."

On top of the structure where the Cine Theater's sign once hung was a large globe painted like the world. When Boys' World folded, the globe was taken down, painted like a baseball, and installed at Devon Avenue and the North Shore Channel in front of Thillens Stadium.

By Monday, September 2, 1957, The "Line 'O Type" column (p. 16) in the Chicago Tribune wondered: "What ever happened to: 'The Boys' World'"
