6601 N. Newgard Avenue

From HistoryWiki

6601 N. Newgard Avenue is the Michael Hogan House and was built in 1911.

Michael Hogan's 1911 stucco home has been owned by his family ever since his grandparents, Mr. F.J. Hogan and Mrs. F.J. Hogan, bought it in 1913. Their son, Frank, who was in second grade at the time of purchase, would eventually raise his family here as well. Frank's life was spent in the entertainment business. He began as a bandleader. He traveled to shows at many Midwestern venues, including Lake Delavan, Wisconsin and in Chicago at the Edgewater Beach Hotel. Eventually, Frank would become a theatrical agent whose clients included Shelley Berman and Bob Newhart.

After marrying into the Hogan family, David L. Hartigan and his wife lived in this house as well. David served as the 49th Ward Alderman while living here in the 1950s and his son, Neil, was raised in this house. Neil has gone on to spend a life in public service, including Ward Committeeman, Illinois Attorney General, and 40th Lt. Governor of Illinois, and a judge of the Illinois Appellate Court.

Current owner, Michael Hogan and his family have lived in the house for 25 years (in 2002). Several substantial changes have been made over the years, including updated baths, finished basement, and a large new kitchen addition in the back portion of the house. The new addition encompasses parts of the old kitchen, pantries, porch, and backyard space that used to be occupied by a garage.
