Royal Insurance Building

170 W. Jackson Boulevard

Facts

The first building in Chicago to reach 13 stories (and the second with 12), the Royal Insurance was built with its side adjoining the Mallers Building, the first 12-story building in the city.

The interior was reputed to be one of the wonders of its day, with a balustraded courtyard providing light to the offices.

Located midblock between LaSalle and Wells, the building ran through the block from Jackson Boulevard on the south to Quincy on the north.

The site is presently occupied by the Federal Reserve Bank of Chicago.
