SUBSTITUTE ORDINANCE

WHEREAS, Article VII. Section 6(a) of the Constitution of the State of Illinois provides that a home rule unit of government may exercise any power and perform any function relating to its government and affairs, and.

WHEREAS, The City of Chicago, having a population in excess of twenty-five thousand (25,000) is a home ruie unit; and

WHEREAS, The redistricting of the wards of the City of Chicago is a matter relating to the government and affairs of the City: and

WHEREAS, Pursuant to Section 65 ILCS 20-21138 of the Illinois Compiled Statues, the City Council shall, by ordinance, redistrict the City of Chicago on the basis of the national census of the preceding year; and

Be It Ordained by the City Council of the City of Chicago:

SECTION 1. Chapter 2-8 of the Municipal Code of the City of Chicago is hereby amended by deleting therefrom Sections 2-8-300 through 2-8-810 and substituting therefore new Sections 2-8-300 through 2-8-810, as follows:

2-8-300. Wards Created - Basis - Redistricting.

The City is hereby divided into 50 wards and redistricted as provided in this Chapter. In the year following the national decennial census, the City Council shall redistrict the City on the basis of such census. In the formation of wards in such redistricting, as nearly as practicable, each ward shall be compact, contiguous, and of substantially equal population with an acceptable deviation to respect established communities of interest or to achieve other legally valid and permissible objectives. This provision shall be subject to Section 21-39 of the Revised Cities and Villages Act, provided that no substitute redistricting ordinance shall be submitted to the voters pursuant to Section 2l-39 unless one-fifth or more of the Aldermen elected, who did not vote to pass the first proposed redistricting ordinance, file with the City Clerk a substitute ordinance together with an appropriate petition signed by them and any other provision to the contrary notwithstanding.

2-8-800 Fiftieth Ward.

The Fiftieth Ward shall be all that portion of the City bounded as follows:

Beginning on the city limit line at the intersection of North Western Avenue and West Howard Street;

thence south on North Western Avenue to West Birchwood Avenue,

thence east on West Birchwood Avenue to North Oakley Avenue;

thence south on North Oakley Avenue to West Touhy Avenue;

thence east on West Touhy Avenue to North Ridge Boulevard;

thence southeast on North Ridge Boulevard to West Columbia Avenue;

thence east on West Columbia Avenue to North Ravenswood Avenue;

thence south on North Ravenswood Avenue to West Devon Avenue;

thence west on West Devon Avenue to North Hoyne Avenue;

thence south on North Hoyne Avenue to West Granville Avenue;

thence west on West Granville Avenue to North California Avenue;

thence south on North Califomia Avenue to West Peterson Avenue;

thence west on West Peterson Avenue to North Lawrdale Avenue;

thence north on North Lawndale Avenue to West Rosemont Avenue;

thence west on West Rosemont Avenue to North Ridgeway Avenue;

thence north on North Ridgeway Avenue to West Devon Avenue (city limit line);

thence east on Devon Avenue to North Kedzie Avenue (city limit line);

thence north on North Kedzie Avenue to West Iloward Street (city limit line);

thence east on West Howard street to the place of beginning.
