1509 W. Estes Avenue, Frederick C. Hachtel, 1919.

1509 W. Estes Avenue was owned by Patrick and Nancy Hartnett.

The house was featured in the 1988 Annual Fall House Tour.

Patrick and Nancy purchased this house in March 1985. The two-story Hartnett House appears to be built in the Colonial Revival Style, featuring a front-gabled roof and two simple rectangular blocks--one placed atop the other. A short flight of stairs leads to the re-built front porch, the ceiling of which is supported by three white columns.

Through the foyer, you go directly into a small sitting room, where, among other things, are a stylish old piano and a cuckoo clock on hand to greet you. In moving from sitting room to dining and living rooms, the keen observer will notice the variety of woods used in the construction of the floor and doorways. The original house (built in the early 1900s), apparently had mahogany or maple floors along with pine molding and baseboards. One of the former owners later added rooms with oak floors and trim.

At the rear of the house is a sunny, spacious kitchen. Sliding glass doors point the way to a sun porch and backyard.

It is on the second floor that the Colonial simplicity of the house is most in evidence. Here there are three bedrooms and a bath. All windows and doors are trimmed with oak. A collapsible stairway connects one bedroom to the attic.
