Tell Us Your Pandemic Story
April 16, 2020 – June 30, 2020
A century ago, the Spanish Flu raged across the world, but we know very little about how it affected the people of Rogers Park and West Ridge. Today, the Covid-19 Pandemic is changing life as we know it, and we want to collect and preserve the experiences we’re all going through.
Everyone has a different story to tell of daily life before and after “social distancing” entered our vocabulary. Your story is a piece of the whole picture, and together with others will become the historical narrative of how Rogers Park and West Ridge lived through the pandemic. Our mission during the shutdown is to collect and preserve that narrative. Once the pandemic is over, we’ll put it all together and share individual experiences with the whole community and with the future.
How can you be a part of our neighborhood’s history? It’s as simple as sending an email to Covid-stories@rpwrhs.org. Type directly into the message — no attachments please. If you send photos, copy and paste them into the body of the email. For each photo, tell us where it was taken, the date and time of day you took it, and the story behind it. If a photo includes people, tell us their names and their relationship to you.
Be sure to include your name and contact information, and tell us where in the neighborhood you live or work. We’ll be in touch if we have questions or if we need more detail about your story. And, of course, we’ll let you know when we’ve put together an exhibition to share.
Note that by submitting your story and photos, you are giving the Rogers Park/West Ridge Historical Society permission to use your materials as part of our historic collection, for exhibitions, publications and other Society programs and initiatives.
