Part of Rogers Park and West Ridge’s unique cultural diversity comes from the variety of faith communities that call this area home. Our first-ever Open Houses of Worship Weekend recognizes the role of religion in the history of the neighborhood, providing an opportunity to learn about local religious congregations with visits to a dozen Houses of Worship over the course of one weekend. Patterned on a combination of our historic house tours and Open House Chicago, the event offers participants a non-sectarian way to engage and interact with community members who follow a wide range of faith traditions, increasing interfaith awareness and highlighting the stories of sometimes-overlooked people and places.
Open Houses of Worship Weekend
Visit a range of religious congregations, learn about their history, the people they serve and the role they play in the community life of Rogers Park and West Ridge. With your registration, you receive a guidebook highlighting the history of each participating congregation and a schedule of open hours and events at each location. Use it to create your own self-guided tour, where you can drop in to each site at a time when you know visitors will be greeted warmly and introduced to the congregation's history and people.
