Luann Hamilton, Board President of Chicago’s Active Transportation Alliance, heads an organization whose mission is to make room on Chicago streets for all forms of transportation, from buses and trucks to bikes, scooters and our own two feet. She will take us on a journey through the history of Chicago street transportation, relating how shared use in the early part of the 20th century evolved into auto-oriented dominence, and how her group and others are working with Chicago city government to foster transformation to a Safe Streets for All policy.
Learn how protected bike lanes, greenways with contra-flow bike lanes, bump outs and pedestrian refuge islands make our streets safer and more comfortable to use no matter how we get around. Ms. Hamilton will also review how high risk behaviors on the road can cause serious accidents and talk about laws we all need to understand and follow, designed to reduce injury and death for pedestrians and bikers.
Join us for this important Living History look at an issue that affects the quality of life for all of us and will shape the character of our neighborhood for years to come.
