AFTER ICE: Exploring A Familar Community to Discover New Insights

During the ICE raids of 2025, North Park University sociology students used a place-based learning approach to connect with the community around their campus. Guided by Professor Lida Nedilsky, they went into the neighborhood to understand the real-world issues faced by Albany Park residents. The work gave them a deeper gaining insights into the lives and circumstances of their neighbors and themselves.
In this workshop, Professor Nedilsky and her students will share their journey of exploration, insight and discovery of the streets and sounds of Albany Park. As they share their mapping of diversity, identity and language in their community, you will discover a fresh way of looking at every local neighborhood – including your own!
