A Walk in the Park with A Clinical Herbalist

Join Alex Williams, a clinical herbalist, on a walk in Legion Park. Alex is the co-founder of First Curve Apothecary and founder of Greenspell, a grassroots organization dedicated to Ecological Herbcraft and community education in bioregional herbalism.

Start the tour with a brief review of the history of Legion Park and surrounding area. Learn about ethical foraging and wildcrafting, deepening your ecological awareness of this unique and beautiful bioregion. You will gain a better understanding of how to use local plants and mushrooms for food or medicine from an expert. herbalist. Our walk ends with an opportunity to sample or purchase some of the tinctures, bitters, teas and extracts that First Curve Apothecary produces.

Alex Williams began foraging as a child in his grandparents’ wooded backyard. He found sanctuary as an adult in his walks through the forests surrounding Chicago. He learned to gather plants with humility and respect, to prepare them as food or make them into medicines, and founded of First Curve Apothecary. His practice eventually grew to include the Greenspell Organization, an ecosystem of offerings grounded in the mission to reclaim the wild connection of body and self to the more-than-human world.

Cost of the tour is $25, or $20 with RPWRHS member discount. Free street parking is available on Bryn Mawr and Virginia Avenues. We are unable to process payment on the day of the tour, so registration and advance payment is required.
