2022 Annual Member Meeting

March 26, 2022 @ 10:00 am 11:30 am

Once again, our annual member meeting will take place virtually over Zoom. We’ll begin with a short business meeting, reporting on RPWRHS activities and events of 2021.  Following the report, we’ll vote to elect new members of our board of directors. All are welcome to attend this meeting, but only members will be able to participate in the election.

Then, we’re excited to host a performance from members of Mandala Arts at our annual meeting.  Mandala Arts is committed to celebrating and sharing the rich cultural and artistic practices of the south Asian subcontinent.  They are an organization of classical and folk musicians, dancers, and storytellers.

The performance is a collaboration between Mandala’s Associate Artistic Director, Ashwaty Chennat and composer Alvin Cobb Jr. Titled “Beaten Path,” it is a fusion between Chicago’s iconic jazz scene and classical Hindu dance. The duo draws from their backgrounds in Bharatnatyam dance and jazz percussion, respectively, as they reflect upon profound resilience to overcome hurdles with mental health and isolation through their art. This performance was filmed as a part of Chicago Takes 10, showcasing the best of Chicago’s performing artists during the pandemic.

As historic immigrant neighborhoods, Rogers Park and West Ridge are both home to many south Asian immigrants and their families, from India, Pakistan, Afghanistan, Bangladesh, and other nations.  This performance by the Mandala Center at our annual meeting is an opportunity to learn more about the heritage and cultures of many of our fellow community members.
