We still can’t gather in person, so the Annual Member Meeting on Zoom will include a review of our year and a new virtual production of a short play by long-time member June Finfer. “The Debate” was first performed live in 1993 to celebrate the Centennial of annexation to Chicago. In this one-time only new production, a group of professional actors will reenact what happened at a Village meeting in 1893 held to debate whether to annex to Chicago or remain a village.
Based on records drawn from RPWRHS archives, the play features Rogers Park luminaries like Mr. Pratt, Mr. Touhy, the Editor of the Rogers Park News, doctors, farmers, and a poet, With the Columbian Exposition about to open, everyone had a reason why we should or should not become part of the City of Chicago. It’s a new look at familiar history that you won’t want to miss.
Free and open to all. Only current members will vote in the Board of Directors election.
