Join us on Tuesday, October 13 from 6:30 to 8 PM at the Northtown Library for “A History of the Jewish Community in West Ridge” with Richard Reeder. This event is the sequel to our immensely popular “A History of the Jewish Community in Rogers Park” program, held in August 2015.
Richard Reeder will explore Jewish life in the West Ridge (West Rogers Park) neighborhood from the 1930s to the present. Reeder will also share excerpts from his book, Chicago Sketches.

This event is free and open to the public. We allowed preregistration but, as of 9/30, all of the preregistration seats are FULL. If you preregistered before 9/30, you are guaranteed seats but, as of 9/30, there are no more preregistered seats. We do have a small number of seats for walk-ins. Walk-ins will be accommodated on a first come, first served basis.

Speaker Bio:
Richard Reeder’s family moved to West Ridge (California and Lunt) from Lawndale when he was 9 years old. He attended Rogers Elementary School, graduating in 1959, and Mather High School, graduating in 1963. He worked as a Chicago Public School teacher, a public aid caseworker and case manager for the state mental health agency. He moved into administration, as Director of Grants Administration at the Chicago Mayor’s Office of Workforce Development, Executive Director of the Polish Welfare Association, and Director of the Jewish Vocational Service’s Refugee Program.
