“Every Building Tells a Story,” a hands-on workshop with Grace DuMelle

Join us for “Every Building Tells a Story,” a hands-on workshop led by Grace DuMelle. This workshop will get you started researching the history of your Chicago house or building, as well as the history of your family or past inhabitants of your home. Ms. DuMelle is recognized as an expert on online resources and local venues for such research. Her workshop will save you time by guiding you to the appropriate resources for your particular research and showing you how to navigate them successfully. Owner of Heartland Historical Research Service, she is the author of Finding Your Chicago Ancestors: A Beginner’s Guide to Family History in the City and Cook County and has been featured in the Chicago Tribune, Daily Southtown, and on WGN Radio. She is on the staff of the Newberry Library.

Where: Greenleaf Art Center, 1806 W. Greenleaf Avenue
When: June 25, Saturday, 11 AM to 3 PM

The workshop will consist of 2 hours of lecture and 2 hours of guided research (1 hour lecture/1 hour hands-on/1 hour lecture/1 hour hands-on). Registration will be limited to 18 participants so that each person can receive individual attention from Grace. Participants must bring a laptop or tablet with wireless capacity; Greenleaf Art Center has wireless access. Snacks and drinks will be available throughout the workshop, but attendees are encouraged to bring a bag lunch if they wish.

Cost and Registration. 

The fee for this workshop is $70 for each non-member and $60 for each RPWRHS member. The fee will be split between the Historical Society and the facilitator. You must register and pay for this event in advance. *Your registration will not be finalized until you submit payment.*
